Pys60gps (English summary)

Finnish version will be more accurate.

Pys60gps is a simple GPS-software for Series 60 mobile phones written in
Python. My goals is to write modular, extensible, reliable and free (open source) GPS-software in Python for Series 60 mobile phones.

Required devices and software:

• Series 60 cellphone (Nokia 6600/6680 etc)


• Bluetooth-GPS-receiver


• Python for Series 60 software (pys60) installed in the phone. Perhaps easiest place to download pys60 is here:

• pys60gps.sis installed in the phone.

Pys60gps is in the very early developement stage and lots of planned features are missing. At the moment it can:

• + connect to the bluetooth-gps-device


• + read NMEA sentences from bluetooth-gps


• + parse NMEA senteces (partly)


• + calculate distance and bearing between two coordinates


• + convert WGS84-coordinates to Finnish grid (KKJ) (This feature doesn't probably work outside of Finland)


• + print location information on the screen

Because I'm not very skilled Python-programmer (and very far away from Symbian guru), I've probably done many things quite dummy or non-pythonic way.

If you are skilled Python-programmer or you have opensource-projectmanagement experience, you are interested in and you think you could and had time to help,
then you can join to develope Pys60gps.
